Sun, beach and music, music, music: Elba Sonica!

Listening to live music while dancing in the sand, enjoying a campari at the beach or going for a swim in the Mediterranean Sea? The idea of an international music festival came true 2017 for the first time – invited by Hotel La Scogliera and Bebop record store Rosenheim awesome bands play at one of the best places in the world. In September, Morcone Beach on the Italian island Elba sometimes turns into a stage for an international independent festival: a holiday full of concerts!
Please notice that the festival can only finance its expenses and of course first and foremost the artists with your donations!

It remains to be seen when there will be the next edition of Elba Sonica. Of course we will inform you via the newsletter if there are any news!

												<p>The Notwist have always been pioneering their own sound, walking a trail of songs across genres toward something definitively new and distinctly them. Yet the German born band are never running ‘from’ their previous creations rather ‘toward’ the next, and in doing so have crafted a series of personal yet impeccable records that warmly thread together the far corners of independent music. Simply speaking, the Notwist make this careful and banging, private yet pop, post-everything music, for the movie going on inside you.<br />
Their latest full length Close To The Glass is yet another courageous leap into the sky of songs. It is a catchy and unpredictable marriage of playing your heart out on an instrument and the magnetic pulse of precise programming. While the band always creates music ripe with authenticity and mood, we find them now defining their edges with no shortage of bravery or beat. As romantic as it is robotic, Close To The Glass is a bottomless collage; part pop song, part science, part band, part story telling and all Notwist. The sturdy glue between the layers of Close To The Glass is their newfound synergy as a band, no longer co-writing parts, Markus Micha and Martin have finally found their human form and in some ways, at last, have ‘become’ the Notwist. Along side Max and Andi, they write, re-write, and record songs as one, tapping into the energy they possess on stage, and naturally arriving at the band all their exploratory recorded music had cut out for them</p>

												<p>The Wave Pictures – Jonny Helm (drums), Dave Tattersall (guitar & vocals) and Franic Rozycki (bass) – returned with their two new albums „Brushes With Happiness“ and „Look Inside Your Heart“ out in 2018 on Moshi Moshi Records.<br />
Franic and David grew up in a village called Wymeswold where they started playing music together with Hugh J. Noble on drums. The band was called Blind Summit. When Hugh decided he didn’t want to play drums he went to Exeter to study Philosophy instead. The band changed it’s name to The Wave Pictures and Hugh was replaced by several drummers until Jonny “Huddersfield” Helm became the permanent replacement.</p>
<p>“Not only did I appreciate his take-no-prisoners musical stylings but also the imaginative lyrical ideas I found mighty refreshing. This is a man who clearly harbours no ambition to be seen hobnobbing with Dido at the Met Bar and has opted instead to plough a righteous but lonely furrow.”</p>

Born in 1967 a year before the summer of hate, makes his first recordings as a 13 year old under the name Taeb Zerfall and putting it out on his own Zerfall Tapes label.. then 1986 founded the Monsters, and in 1984 changing the name from Taeb Zerfall to Lightning Beat-Man the Wrestling one man show.. and then 1999 changed his name to REVEREND BEAT-MAN, 1992 founding the voodoo rhythm label.<br />
Reverend Beat-Man is not only a One Man band it is A MISSION an Mission for the Blues Trash church.. with only a Guitar a Kick Drum 1 Hi Hat and a microphone Reverend Beat-Man tells you story’s about Dead, the Live about killing and about the lost love and about seeing the Light ..this is kinda a new way to preach the Gospel to the people, it’s all very raw and primitive with a lot of Blues Trash and Primitive Rock’n’Roll and Gospel music in it.. and HE PREACHES !!! believe me brothers and sisters he will bring you on the wrong track of live and then gets you back to the blues trash church !!!</p>

												<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Jeffrey Lewis & Los Bolts (NYC, Rough Trade Records) play a crazy, original mix of scuzzy urban indie-rock, literate lyrics and comic book punk, like a 21st Century mash-up of Sonic Youth, Pete Seeger and R. Crumb.  Jeffrey has done tours in Europe and America and Australia and Asia and elsewhere (averaging over 100 gigs every year since 2001), as well as sometimes playing as the opening act for bands like the Mountain Goats, Daniel Johnston, Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks, The Fall, Pulp, Roky Erickson, The Vaselines, Adam Green, and other luminaries.  Jeffrey has released seven critically acclaimed albums on Rough Trade Records, in addition to albums on other labels (like K Records and Don Giovanni), and Jeffrey continues to self-publish his art and writing in an ongoing underground comic book series called Fuff. With current Los Bolts bandmates Brent (Moldy Peaches) Cole on drums and Mem (Cat Tatt) Pahl on bass, Jeffrey has recorded a new full-length album in Nashville with producer Roger Moutenot (Yo La Tengo, Lou Reed, Sleater-Kinney), with release date tba!  </span></p>

One of the most distinctive figures in the NZ musical landscape is Delaney Davidson. Over a series of albums and compelling live performances he has presented his often jarring yet beautiful songs like some strange spook outlaw phantom, more at home walking through the pines at midnight under a full moon.<br />
Well known for his hypnotic and original One man and his Ghost Orchestra show, enigmatic multi-instrumentalist Delaney Davidson both defines and commands his own unique realm in the shadowy musical world some call ‘Country-Noir’ or ‘Gothic Americana’.<br />
NZ Arts Foundation Laureate Recipient 2015, Winner of the 2013 New Zealand Music Awards Country Album of the Year, Three-time winner of the APRA New Zealand Country Music Song Of The Year, 2012, 2013, 2014, Voodoo Rhythm One Man Band World Champion Zurich 2011, Saddest Song World Champion Berlin 2010.<br />
His inspirations range from Hank Williams and Howlin’ Wolf to The Birthday Party, from Johnny Cash through Suicide to Buster Keaton. Reveling in the darker side of things, Davidson’s lyrical content dredges up classic murder ballads, songs with a deep insight into the human condition, and hypnotic trance takes on old blues classics. All liberally laced with an abiding sympathy for human quirks, failure, foibles and triumphs. 												<p align="justify">Movie Star Junkies are back with a grudge. The new album, “Evil Moods”, sets things clear right from the title.<br />
Lyrically inspired by the pioneers of noir/hardboiled fiction like Dashiell Hammett, James Cain and Jim Thompson (whom the eponimous song is dedicated to) as well as by autobiographic experiences, the music also sees a return to the grittier, sleazier mood of their first two records, after “Son Of The Dust” (Outside Inside/Wild Honey, 2012) had seen the band walking paths that led them across the sun-scorched territories of folk and americana.<br />
The sound is more sombre and dry than before, managing to put on soulful, almost funky moves on tales of desperation and coming away with it like the Pop Group were raised on moonshine while bathing in a swamp.</p>

												<p>CHICOS DE NAZCA are yet another psychedelic product Santiago’s underground movement, formed in 2010 by guitarist and vocalist Francisco Cabala to run alongside his full time band La Hell Gang. As part of Chile’s prolific BYM Records collective, Chicos De Nazca benefit from a fluid line-up of musicians who appear across the band’s different albums: Igancio Rodriguez (The Holydrug Couple), Juan Pablo Rodriguez (Föllakzoid), Martin Avendaño and Carlos Cabala have all been part of the Chicos clan at various points.</p>
<p>Chicos De Nazca have released three official albums (on BYM Records and Hozac Records) and two unofficial ones, utilising tape recording, analog effects and endless layers of guitars to build their atmospherics sounds. The group’s characteristic gentle and psychedelic repertoire – in which the rhythm and keyboards are essential to keep the songs afloat – owes a bedt to the generation of rock bands that sprung from the post-acid house fever of 1988 in Chicago and England. A soundtrack for a trip to a place of dreams.</p>

												<p>Duck Duck Grey Duck was founded in 2013 by Robin Girod of Mama Rosin (vocals and guitars), Neslon Schaer (Erika Stucky, Trionyx) on drums and Pierre-Henri Beyrière on bass. A super-charged three-piece power band that sounds more like a monolithic swing machine, happened by accident, without anyone even noticing. With a retro-super-future sound, their music is full of spontaneity and reminiscent of the vitality of old-school recordings. Californian reverbs, sex-beat tainted rock, hypnotic through the groove, in a single album they managed to achieve a post-modern sound by gorging themselves on the fruit of the vinyl. With their Magical Doo-Wop, Lake Geneva Soul-Surf-Garage, two-beat grooves and ancestral rhythms, the combo Duck Duck Grey Duck is driven by a rock’n’roll fury – this modern disease, desires hidden by eternal grooves.</p>

												<h3>Clemence Freschard & Stanley Brinks (FR)</h3>
												<p>Stanley Brinks began performing officially as André Herman Düne in 1999, sharing lead vocals, guitar playing and songwriting with his brother David in the band Herman Düne for a number of years. They released several albums and toured extensively in UK, gaining and owing a lot to great support from John Peel. He has used many monikers for various side-projects, but since leaving Herman Düne in 2006, he has been known solely as Stanley Brinks. Born in Paris, Stan has been living between New York, San Francisco, Malta and Berlin for about a decade, always on the move. He has recorded more than 100 albums, collaborated with the New York Antifolk scene on several occasions, recorded and toured with traditional Norwegian musicians, and played a lot with The Wave Pictures.</p>
<p>Freschard grew up in a farm in French Burgundy. Aged 18 she moved to Paris, where she baked pies and cakes in a cafe. There, a local musician and regular customer called Stanley Brinks wrote a few songs for her to sing. Homeless in Paris, she saved up just enough money to get herself a ticket to New York. There she found an old electric guitar and started writing her own songs. In 2004 she moved to Berlin, where she recorded her first LP, “Alien Duck”. Her second album, “Click Click”, recorded in 2006, features electric guitar by Stanley Brinks. On her third album, she plays the drums herself. On her fourth “Shh…” she also plays the flute. For this year’s “Boom Biddy Boom” she also plays the washboard.</p>

<p>Old world melodies, new world eclecticism, traditional roots, modern sensibilities, … here is an album signed by three singer-songwriters, three seasoned front men whom music has marked forever, guitar heroes, wanderers of long paths, accompanying one another on voice, guitars, drums, percussion, bass, accordion and other instruments of sound, producing a set of songs; strong tunes, catchy vocals, assured voices singing poignant, wry, worldly, funny lyrics, a haunted house melange, blues-rock-folk-jazz-cabaret subversion kind of kick.</p>
<p>Assembled in 2017 in the outback of Geneva by multilingual troubadour Fred Raspail to produce a couple of singles, Los Gatillos was born and emerged from a creative retreat (at a house named Le Gatillon) with enough new songs for an album, and after some sessions in the house and in the studio, and on the desk, here it is: 16 songs, in english, in french and in german, wild and spontaneous songs, dusty folk tunes, ghostly melodies and lingering blues…</p>
<p>Bear witness to the delicious fruit of time-locked moonlighting from three great musicians that you can get nowhere else, in such a concentrated dose, except right here, of course.</p>

												<p>A garage psych phenomenon from Germany. The Vagoos combine Garage Rock with Surf Psych and a sharp Punk attitude to something they once called “Acid Punk” but they might be already beyond that.<br />
After their eponymous debut on Off Label Records, they released an EP that sounded somewhat like a psyched out turn on “the early Beatles in Punk” – the following year their 2nd LP “Heat Wave” was released, which is a fast paced record with heavy reverberation, fuzz and Surf guitars.<br />
Their latest album “Psychic Action” is for sure the most trippy one, even a little krautish… hypnotic riffs over straight minimalistic beats.</p>

												<p>During a co-headline tour of Italy in 2016, JF Robitaille (Canada) and Lail Arad (UK) found their duets increasingly in demand. Excited by the reactions, a collaboration emerged between the two songwriters and snowballed in a way they couldn’t have predicted. Their debut singles opened new doors and the pair embarked on numerous tours, playing over 100 shows and festivals together, from Italy to India. 												<p>“Es ist noch nicht aller Tage Abend”, singen sie ganz gerne. Ganz genau! Zeit wird´s! Die Münchner Künstlerin Leonie Felle und ihre “Singt”-Band hat ihr Fahrwasser im Folk oder Pop oder LoFi, oder einem anderen blau-grünem Briefkasten eurer Wahl gefunden. Ihre Seemannskapelle “Singt” bearbeitet derweil gelassen und unaufhörlich singende Sägen, ein “Hallo” Akkordeon, noch ne Gitarre, la batteria del Doc & den Uprightbass: il fondamento für Leonie & Leonie singt. Fertig! Das tönt dann ungefähr so: segelnd, leichte Fahrt voraus, auf jeden Fall mal wunderschön, einfach nach Sommer schreiend, oder – Hey, lasst uns bitte mal wieder ein Bild malen. 												<p>Fifteen years Gipsy Rufina rolled and rambled around playing thousands of shows across Europe, Estern countries and South America, daring sometimes places where few others did.<br />
Hoboing in a pure outlaw troubadur spirit he constantly toured from 2005, picking the lines of his narrative, coming from his life, obscure sometimes, simple others but still deep, soaked with grace and far from a cheesy songwriting.</p>

												<p>0101 are Daniel von Rüdiger and Carl. They orchestrate live looping guitars, sample drums, and social documentary together to create a Cinematic Postrock Experience. 0101 takes you on a cyclical audio voyage without contrived ambiance or excess droning. 0101 fuse field recordings from Papua New Guinea with guitar loops and sample drums to cinematic Post-Rock. Carl and Daniel von Rüdiger take you on a hypnotic voyage into an intriguing world of audio-visual loops. When the trip ends, you find yourself at a beginning, without knowing how you got there.</p>
